How to Change the Aspect Ratio of Images

Learn how to adjust or crop image aspect ratios using Scale, Maintain Aspect, Tile, and Crop settings for better design flexibility.

Updated this week

Whether you're working on banner ads, social media visuals, or other designs, adjusting your image's aspect ratio in Bannersnack is simple and flexible. Follow this guide to understand how scaling modes work and how you can fine-tune your image appearance for the best results.

Basic Scaling Options

You can adjust the image's aspect directly from the Settings toolbar using the Scale dropdown. Here’s what each option does:

  • Scale Crop (default): Scales your image proportionally to fill the container. Parts of the image may be cropped to fit.

  • Exact Fit: Stretches the image to fit the container exactly—no cropping, but may distort proportions.

  • Maintain Aspect: Keeps the image’s original aspect ratio intact, regardless of the container's shape.

  • No Scale: Displays the image at its original size without any scaling, which may result in blank space if the container size differs.

Advanced Options: Tile Mode & More

If you want to get creative, Tile Mode allows you to repeat and manipulate your image for unique effects. You can adjust:

  • Tile Zoom: Zoom in or out of the tiled image.

  • Offset X: Move the image horizontally within the tile.

  • Offset Y: Move the image vertically within the tile.

These features are ideal for creating textured backgrounds or patterns.

Our newest addition is the Crop tool, which gives you even more control over your image’s aspect and framing.

Pro Tip

Use Maintain Aspect for product photos and brand visuals to ensure they look professional across all banner sizes.
