Creating Google Ads–Compatible HTML5 Designs

Ensure your HTML5 designs meet Google Ads size, duration, and font rules. Optimize assets, convert fonts to SVG, and validate them.

Updated this week

If you’re creating HTML5 designs for Google Ads, it’s important to meet their technical and policy requirements to ensure approval.

Key Google Ads HTML5 requirements:

  • File size must not exceed 150 KB.

  • Animation duration must not exceed 30 seconds.

  • OTF and TTF custom font files are not supported.

  • Ads must meet Google Ads image ad policies.

How to meet the requirements:

  1. Optimize image assets before uploading. We recommend a maximum of 500 KB per asset for faster loading and compliance.

  2. Use fonts from the built-in library, or if you must use custom fonts, enable Convert custom fonts to SVG in the save panel to ensure compatibility.

  3. Adjust animation settings to stay within the 30-second limit. For example, a 9-second single-slide ad should loop no more than 3 times (9 × 3 = 27 seconds). Use the “Stop slide” option on the last slide to end the animation cleanly.

  4. After exporting in HTML5 format, validate your ZIP file using the Google Ads HTML5 validator to confirm compliance.

Following these steps helps your ads load faster, pass Google Ads checks, and display correctly across all devices.

Further information on the AdWords guidelines can be found in Google's image ad requirements topic.
