Using the Sidebar to Control Layers and Slides

Learn how to use the design editor’s sidebar to adjust slide duration, manage layers, add transitions, and organize elements efficiently.

Updated this week

When creating a design in the editor, the sidebar offers a quick and intuitive way to adjust slide properties, manage layers, and organize your project—without needing to open the full timeline.

Below, we’ll cover the key features and how to use them effectively.

Real-Time Slide Thumbnail Updates

The slide thumbnail updates instantly as you make changes to your design on the canvas. This visual feedback helps you see your progress without switching views.

A user clicks on a slide thumbnail in the right-hand panel of the design editor to manage slide options without opening the timeline.

Duplicate, Delete, or Stop Slides

From the slide thumbnail, you can:

  • Duplicate a slide to reuse its design.

  • Delete a slide you no longer need.

  • Stop a slide’s playback.

A user duplicates the current slide and inserts it into the sequence, showing changes in the slide order and transitions.

Change Slide Duration

There are two easy ways to adjust how long a slide appears:

  1. Drag to adjust – Click and drag the bottom edge of the slide in the sidebar to lengthen or shorten the duration.

  2. Enter a custom time – Double-click the slide duration and enter the desired time using your keyboard.

User adjust slides duration by dragging the slide manually in the sidebar.

Add Transitions Between Slides

You can add transitions between slides directly from the sidebar. Adjust the transition duration using the same methods as slide duration changes—dragging or typing a custom time.

A user adds a transition between two slides and adjusts its duration manually in the sidebar.

Rearrange Slides with Drag and Drop

Need to reorder slides? Simply drag a slide thumbnail to its new position in the sidebar.

A user rearranges slides by drag and drop in the sidebar.

Copy and Paste Layers Between Slides

You can quickly copy a layer from one slide to another:

  • Windows: CTRL + C and CTRL + V

  • Mac: Command + C and Command + V

A user copy and pastes layers between slides.

Hide or Show Layers

If multiple layers overlap in the same position at different points in the timeline, use the hide/show option to make designing easier and improve visibility.

A user hides and shows layers using the icon in the timeline and in the sidebar.

This streamlined sidebar workflow allows you to manage your slides and layers more efficiently, so you can focus on creativity rather than navigation.
