Best Practices When Working with the Design Generator

Boost productivity with the Design Generator. Create, sync, and animate multi-size design sets faster and easier.

Updated this week

The Design Generator helps you quickly create, customize, and scale multi-size design sets while keeping elements aligned and animations consistent. By using its advanced features, you can save time, maintain design accuracy, and avoid repetitive edits.

Start with Core Sizes for Better Accuracy

To prevent element misplacement across your set:

  1. Begin with three core sizes:

    • Square

    • Leaderboard

    • Skyscraper

  2. Customize these layouts first.

  3. Add the remaining sizes only after your base designs are finalized.

This ensures better element alignment and avoids content shifting when generating additional sizes.

Keep Layers Organized and Editable

Rename Layers for Clarity

You can rename all layers in the Generator, making it easier to keep your design structure organized.

Position Grid for Precise Alignment

The Position Grid tool allows you to align objects independently on specific layouts, which is ideal when working with mixed orientations in a set.

Control Styling and Transitions Across Sizes

Sync Options

Easily reset layers to their original global settings or sync colors, text, and styles across all sizes. You can also:

  • Sync individual layers in Focus Mode

  • Apply sync to all sizes or selected layouts (square, vertical, horizontal)

Lock Properties

Prevent changes to element styles on specific sizes by enabling Lock Properties. This is useful when you want certain layouts to have unique text, colors, or styles.

Lock Transitions

Lock a transition effect for a specific layer, then apply additional animations from the Magic Animator for more complex motion sequences.

Speed Up Animation and Asset Placement

Apply Animations in Bulk

  • Create one size, animate it, and save the set.

  • Add the rest of the sizes later—animations will carry over automatically.

Copy/Paste Animations Across Sizes

From the Generator’s timeline, copy animations and apply them to all sizes or specific orientations.

Copy/Paste Elements in Focus Mode

In Focus Mode, use:

  • CTRL/CMD+C to copy elements

  • CTRL/CMD+V to paste them into other sizes
This method also works for drag-and-drop placement of files directly into specific sizes.

Workflow Benefits

By using the Design Generator efficiently, you can:

  • Minimize repetitive edits

  • Keep multi-size sets consistent

  • Apply complex animations across layouts in seconds

  • Organize your layers for long-term project management
