Working with Layer Lock

Learn how to lock layers to prevent accidental edits. Locked layers can’t be moved, edited, or multi-selected, but can still be duplicated or reordered in the layer list.

Locking a layer helps prevent accidental edits while you work on other elements in your design.

You can lock a layer using:

  • The lock icon next to the layer name in the Layers panel

  • The lock option in the layer’s contextual menu

What happens when a layer is locked

When a layer is locked:

  • It can’t be moved by dragging it on the canvas

  • Its properties can’t be edited

  • It won’t be selected when you use multi-select on the canvas

This ensures the layer stays exactly as it is while you work around it.

What you can still do with a locked layer

Even when locked, you can still:

  • Duplicate the layer

  • Reorder it by moving it up or down in the Layers panel
