How to Download Retina‑Ready JPG and PNG Files

Download retina-ready JPG and PNG files by selecting a 1×, 2×, 3×, or 4× export scale. Higher scales increase pixel density for sharper images on high-resolution and Retina displays.

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Bannersnack lets you export retina‑ready JPG and PNG files by choosing a higher export scale. This gives you sharper visuals on high‑resolution screens, without changing your original design size.

You can export your designs at 1×, 2×, 3×, or 4× scale, depending on where and how the asset will be used.

What does “export scale” mean?

Export scale controls how many pixels your final file contains compared to the original canvas size:

  • – Exports at the original design resolution

  • – Doubles both width and height (4× more pixels)

  • – Triples both width and height (9× more pixels)

  • – Quadruples both width and height (16× more pixels)

The design itself stays exactly the same. Only the pixel density of the exported file increases, resulting in crisper images on retina and high‑DPI displays.

When should I use retina exports?

Retina‑ready exports are ideal when your designs will be:

  • Displayed on high‑resolution (Retina / HiDPI) screens

  • Used in presentations, landing pages, or product screenshots

  • Uploaded to platforms that downscale images automatically

  • Viewed up close, where sharp text and edges matter

If file size is a concern (for example, email attachments or lightweight web usage), exporting at 1× or 2× is usually sufficient.

How to export a retina‑ready JPG or PNG

  1. Open Download option in the top‑right corner of your design

  2. Select JPG or PNG as the export format

  3. Open the Scale dropdown

  4. Choose 1×, 2×, 3×, or 4×

  5. Click Download

Your file will be exported at the selected scale, ready for high‑resolution use.

JPG vs PNG — which should I choose?

  • JPG

    • Smaller file size

    • Best for photos or designs with many gradients

    • Ideal for web usage where size matters

  • PNG

    • Lossless quality

    • Supports transparency

    • Best for logos, UI elements, and text‑heavy designs

Both formats support retina scaling.

Things to keep in mind

  • Higher scale = larger file size

  • A 4× export can be significantly heavier than a 1× export

  • Retina exports do not change layout or proportions

  • Ideal when clarity matters more than file size
