Once an animation looks right, you don't have to rebuild it. You can copy it to other layers, apply one preset to many layers at once, and reuse animations across every size in a design set.
Copy and paste an animation
Click the build-in (or build-out) part of the layer bar whose animation you want to reuse.
Click the sliders icon to open the advanced settings.
Click Copy (the left icon at the bottom of the panel).
Click the build-in part of another layer and open its advanced settings.
Click Paste, or click the small arrow next to it to choose how to paste:
Transition only – copies the effect and its settings. The target layer keeps its own timing. This is what a plain click on Paste does.
Transition with timing – also copies when the animation starts and how long it lasts.
Tip: copy and paste also works for Custom animations, so a custom entrance you built once can be reused on every button in your design. Open the Custom panel and use the copy and paste icons at the bottom.
Apply an animation to several layers at once
In the Layers list next to the timeline, click a layer.
Hold Shift and click the other layers you want to change. They're highlighted in the list and on the canvas.
Click the build-in (or build-out) part of one of the selected layers.
Pick a preset. It's applied to all selected layers.
Changes you make in the panel's settings also apply to all selected layers.
Good to know: Copy isn't available while several layers are selected. Select a single layer to copy its animation.
Reuse animations across sizes in a design set
In a design set, every size has its own animations. Two features save you from setting each size up by hand.
Paste to other sizes
Double-click a size to open edit mode, then open its timeline.
Open a layer's build-in settings and click Copy.
Click the arrow next to Paste and choose where to paste:
Option | Pastes to |
This layout only | The size you're editing |
All layouts | Every size in the design set |
Rectangle layouts | Square-ish sizes, such as 300 × 250 and 336 × 280 |
Vertical layouts | Tall sizes, such as 160 × 600 and 300 × 600 |
Horizontal layouts | Wide sizes, such as 728 × 90, 320 × 100 and 320 × 50 |
The layout groups are useful because wide, tall and square banners often need different animations. A slide from the left works in a leaderboard, while a slide from the top suits a skyscraper.
Lock Transition
To keep one layer animating the same way in every size, lock its transition:
Leave edit mode and open the Layers tab in the left panel.
Expand the layer (for example Button) and scroll down.
Tick Lock Transition. The tooltip reads Locking will take effect on all sizes.
While a layer is locked, its animation stays in sync across all sizes. To make a size-specific change later, choose Unlock transition for that layer. A confirmation explains that unlocking affects all sizes.
Which method should I use?
